Product Description
WANSUN Y-Posts (also known as star pickets or Y-posts) feature a Y-shaped cross-section with three anchor ribs for maximum grip in soil. Popular in Australian and New Zealand farming, these posts provide superior holding power in sandy and loose soils. The black painted finish provides excellent corrosion protection and the multi-anchor design prevents post rotation.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why are Y-posts popular in Australia and New Zealand?
Y-posts (star pickets) are the standard fencing post in Australia and NZ because their three-rib design provides excellent grip in sandy and rocky soils common in these regions. The AS/NZS 1161 standard ensures consistent quality across manufacturers.
What is the difference between Y-posts and T-posts?
T-posts have a T-shaped cross-section with external studs for wire attachment. Y-posts have a Y-shaped (star) cross-section with pre-punched holes. Y-posts provide better grip in soft soil due to three anchor ribs. T-posts are more common in North America; Y-posts are standard in Australia/NZ.
Can Y-posts be used for high-tensile fencing?
Yes, Y-posts are suitable for high-tensile fencing applications. The 2.0-2.5 kg/m weight posts provide adequate strength for high-tensile wire tension. For extreme tension or very long fence spans, consider using heavier 2.5 kg/m posts or supplement with wooden strainer posts at corners.
How long does the black bituminous coating last?
The bituminous coating typically provides 15-20 years of protection in temperate climates. In tropical or coastal environments, expect 10-15 years. For maximum life in corrosive environments, we also offer HDG galvanized Y-posts with 25+ year life expectancy.
